X Marks the Spot

The Benartex Ambassador year is off to a great start! Our first group project was to create a Benartex “X” tote and I am seeing so many fun variations that showcase each designer’s style. We were each sent a different fabric line which creates some fun variety. I was lucky enough to be sent Marbella by Paula Nadelstern. Her colors are exceedingly rich! Since I love using a piecing technique called Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) I had to come up with a perfect replica of the X logo. FPP is a method of sewing fabric to paper allowing greater accuracy of intricate blocks.

I made my tote X-tra roomy because it will be making its way to QuiltCon with my daughter and me. QuiltCon is the largest modern quilt convention in the world and this year it will be held in Atlanta. Three weeks and counting! And where there is a quilt show, there are also vendors. Hence the large tote. It will be a special thrill going this year as my quilt, Ripple Effect will be hanging in the show!

My favorite fabric of the Marbella line is actually on the back of the tote, and in the alternate blocks on the front. It is the richest purple with maroon highlights and it is gorgeous. Pictures don’t do it justice!

The biggest surprise of all is the bright orange lining. It just makes me smile. I love how color can do that!

Speaking of color, the quilt you’ve been seeing in the background is my design, Twirly Gig made with the fabric line Stitchy by Christa Watson for Benartex. I have made several quilts with her fabric designs. Every time one of her lines come out I simply have to design a new quilt!

Thanks for taking a look at my blog post. I hope you will continue to read as the year progresses.
